Establishment of the Purpose Authenticity Task force aimed at becoming “more than just a responsible decarbonization solutions company”

2024.09.30[Projects]

Shizen Energy Group aspires to go beyond a ‘Responsible Decarbonization Solutions Company’ by being committed to taking positive actions for the blue planet.

To achieve this purpose sustainably, we have launched a dedicated “Purpose Authenticity” task force focused on three core pillars: Responsibility, Nature Positive Renewable Energy Power Plants, and Local Impact.

Through this initiative we aim to drive concrete actions to ensure the Group delivers towards this mandate and track progress with key milestones.

Core Pillars

Pillar 1: Responsibility

By 2030, Shizen Energy is determined to significantly expand our renewable energy power plants and battery storage operations. While we expect that this growth may lead to an increase in Scope 2 emissions from electricity consumption of the powerplants, we are committed to balancing expansion with reduction targets.

Cutting emissions from our current buildings and transportation activities are some focus areas to drive real change. Additionally, we will consider implementing processes for our supply chain to disclose ESG-related information in accordance with our “Supplier Code”, ensuring transparency on GHG emissions and risk assessments.

Pillar 2: Nature Positive Renewable Energy Power Plant

The construction of renewable energy power plants as a measure against climate change may be perceived to have negative effects on biodiversity. Shizen Energy is determined to address these concerns as part of our Purpose Authenticity initiative. We understand that the focus on renewable energy must also consider a “Nature Positive” approach to fulfill our purpose and ensure that the next generation can enjoy the blue planet.

As such a Nature Positive Powerplant Committee has been established to evaluate impacts and set clear action goals towards this mandate.

Pillar 3: Local Impact

Shizen Energy is dedicated to contributing towards regional revitalization and value creation as part of our overall Group strategy. As such, we strive to ensure that there is priority placed to benefit the communities where our renewable energy power plants are located.

Our approach emphasizes meaningful engagement with local stakeholders and fostering sustainable development through community partnerships.

Emission Reduction Target

As part of the “Responsibility Pillar”, we have set clear GHG emission reduction targets. Our ambition is to reduce emissions by 10% compared to fiscal year 2023 levels by 2025 and 2030, despite expecting significant business growth.

This goal reflects our commitment towards sustainable practices and accountability while we achieve growth.

Governance

To ensure a robust governance framework that aligns with the company’s strategic objectives, the Purpose Authenticity taskforce and its specialized committees will report directly to the management committee that will be accountable to the Board of Directors.

This structure highlights our commitment to transparency and purposeful decision-making.
